Pointless Controversy

Many of you may know, the VMAS were on last night. The show was filled with bullshit, attention whores and more bullshit, because MTV has become a network that exploits trash. The VMAs are no longer about music and art. It has become a show dedicated to celebrities causing pointless controversy. Don’t get me wrong, I love controversy, and I understand from a marketing perspective that it keeps stars relevant. I just cannot stand it when they cause controversy just to get their name in headlines. Use controversy to make a statement.

Nobody did controversy better than Madonna, and Miley Cyrus and her revealing outfits are nothing more than a cry for attention. They’re just tits Miley chill out. Madonna’s Like a Virgin VMA performance helped jump start her career, and inspired other artists like Britney Spears to also raise eyebrows during her VMA performances. Remember when Spears ripped off her suit to reveal a flesh colored bra, pants and her thong popping out? It enraged parents across America, including my own mother, but she was trying to reveal to the world she was no longer a little girl, and while Cyrus is trying to convey the same message, she does it in a completely different way. She goes over the top, and she really doesn’t need to. I think it is great when women express their sexuality, but there is a sexy way to do it, and then there’s the trashy way, and I think she always goes for the trashy way, because it’s easy. My generation loves easy. We want what we want and we want it now.

It was Britney Spears's second time at the VMAS--she'd debuted the previous year, singing a relatively tame version of her first single, "... Baby One More Time." But in 2000, she stepped up and changed the game, opening with a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" (which she performed while dressed in a menswear-style pinstriped suit), before segueing into her hit "Oops! ...I Did It Again," and tearing off her shirt, jacket and pants to reveal a surprising nude-tone two-piece bodysuit.

Kanye West’s overdrawn out speech was a total publicity stunt, and Taylor Swift’s performance with the most talented woman in the entertainment industry Nicki Minaj was a complete joke. Where has the talent gone? Where is the substance? True artists make statements, they aren’t looking to be hash tagged just for the fuck of getting attention. Thoughts?

#TBT Remembering TRL

Remember TRL? AKA Total Request Live, a television show that aired on MTV when they actually focused on music (I KNOW THEY REMOVED THEIR MUSICAL NOTES FROM THEIR LOGO).

It was hosted by my friend over here:

December Is The Month For Delusional People

Tis the season to be surrounded by delusion fa la la la la

For some reason, winter really brings out the crazy in the crazies to the point where people are actually surprised at how these lunatics are acting. It is kind of difficult to be shocking when you are a known lunatic, but these people know how to do it, because they’re professional crazies. What the fuck am I talking about? People that NEED a reality check. I know you know some.

The first person that needs a reality check is that one person who is so desperate to get into a relationship, because they’re friends are all engaged or married and they want to find that special someone that is going to give them butterflies and scratch their backs on Sunday morning. Winter is a time for couples, but don’t be so desperate to find someone because you will end up unhappy in the end. These types of people do not listen; it is pretty much impossible to get through to them.

The diet whore. Girl Code said it best NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR DIET UNLESS YOU’RE EATING EVERYTHING! Seriously though, keep your diet to yourself, and all your fitness goals as well, because these types of people TALK about fitness goals, they never actually go out and attempt to achieve them. They are delusional because they think people believe them, and see the same results as them, they see a six peck, and we see nada.

Last but not least the person that likes to exaggerate their family stories to the point of, yeah that only occurred in your imagination. We all spice up a story, but we don’t make it impossible to eat.

I have some more people that need a reality check right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiR4-7Z0Qsk

Is This Some Joke They Are Trying to Pull on Us?- Wed Night Go Out Right

What’s up my snarky internet friends? I have compiled another list of songs for ya! Listen to em!

  • Flat Top- The Goo Goo Dolls- It is political, and interesting. It discusses how the television altered the way we think, and how we see things. One of my favorite lines in the song is “shows me what to love and who I am supposed to be”, because let’s face it television is a very powerful medium and changed society for better and for worse. Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWfRGgQ9duI
  • What It Feels Like-Madonna- A great song from from one of my favorite artist’s Madonna. I love its feminist message along with the awesome video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAgaPk4GHPY
  • Thriller- Michael Jackson- If you havent seen or heard of this song/video you are probably wearing diapers, or have been living under a rock chilling with some pink worms, because this is one of the most famous music videos EVER! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA
  • What’s Going On- 4 Non Blondes I just dig this song! I love Linda Perry she’s a bad ass.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NXnxTNIWkc

Everything In The World Is About Sex Except Sex is about Power

Oscar Wilde’s wise words are indeed correct. At least in my opinion. Let’s take a look at advertising, shall we; what is the easiest way to get a consumer’s attention? Sex. It is simple, eye catching, provocative, and time after time it continues to generate positive results. If it did not work, companies would not use it to sell the dipshit consumer their new scent of deodorant, or their new cologne. Or whatever else they want to convince somebody they NEED.

Sex is also being used in the Entertainment industry, how many times do we hear previous generations complaining about how television contains a ridiculous amount of sex? We hear people annoyed ALL the time. Most of these people are angry mothers, pissed off because the squeaky clean teenager their tween daughter idolizes isnt so clean after all.

Sunday night, Miley Cyrus performed at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards acting a little aloof, and somewhat obscene. The internet went into a frenzy posting memes, photographs, articles and count downs poking fun at the former Disney starlet. Cyrus has been acting a little crazy, I am sure she is experimenting with drugs, partying, drinking, having sex, the works.

I want you to close your eyes for a moment, let’s go back in time to when you were 16 years old. Now let’s pretend you are famous, people idolize you, and you are filthy rich. You cannot have certain friends, because you are under a strict contract that forbids you to be seen with certain people or do certain things. If you get caught with a cigarette in your hand or appear stoned your cookie cutter image could be destroyed…FOREVER! You are basically a big corporations puppet. Now lets flash forward to a few years. You are now 21 years old, your strings have been cut off, you are famous, filthy rich and have the world in the palm of your hands. How would you be acting? Remember the 21 year old version of yourself, the younger, dumber, immature version of what you grew up to be. I am sure you knew someone that experimented with drugs, drank too much and had the occasional casual sex partner. It is called sewing your wild oats and most people are a little crazy during their youth. It is NORMAL!

Miley’s outrageous performance did exactly what it intended to do, it put her in the spotlight, it stole the show even if people were saying negative things about her there is no such thing as bad publicity. Miley having the media poke fun at her ass, calling her a drug addict, crazy whatever terms they choose to use is a whole lot better than ignoring her.

Here is where everything ties into Oscar Wilde’s fine words: sex is about power. We use sex to control people. We use sex to sell people products they dont necessarily need, we create a problem than give them a solution by incorporating sex. Ladies use this diet pill you will lose 15 pounds in two weeks!!! Flashes to a sexy model running in central park. Men use AXE!! Flashes to a guy getting trampled by a bunch of hot models on a beach, all because his arm pits smell like AXE. You can’t just have sex with anyone, you want the chiseled form of pure perfection you see on your screen and in order to get that person you need to use that product. It sounds silly but it works. If it did not work we would see more homely looking people dressed in jeans and a t-shirt informing us of why we need this product. We do not see this because it is not a fantasy that is many people’s reality.
